DemirDöküm adds one more new goal to its pretentious goals in the heating and cooling sector ?
While continuously increasing energy need in the world bringing up the new searches into agenda, DemirDöküm implements a new project in order to use the solar energy which is one of the important resources of our country.
DemirDöküm, which has created the products that meet the comfort need of the customers in the heating and cooling sector since 1954, has signed an investment agreement with German Solitem GmbH during the ceremony which the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler, the Minister of Economy and Energy of German Northern Rein Westfalia Ms. Christia Thoben, General Manager of DemirDöküm Mr. Bülent Lütfü Kızıltan and General Manager of Solitem Dr. Ahmet Lokurlu participated.

DemirDöküm targets to send the heating and cooling system with parabolic collector which meets all heating and cooling needs with the solar energy in the places where it is applied into the European markets and the markets of all world countries where the solar energy is used commonly as well as Turkish market. DemirDöküm and Solitem will get benefit from the 7th Framework R&D Funds of European Union for their R&D studies. After the production starts, DemirDöküm plans to obtain 25 million Euros revenue during the years of 2009-2010.

Total budget of the project, which will be implemented at two stages as R&D and Investment-Manufacturing, is 1.6 Million Euros. Following the completion of R&D studies of the project in 2008, the investment will be made for manufacturing.
General Manager of DemirDöküm, Bülent Lütfü Kızıltan, who spoke in the signing ceremony, has pointed out that the increasing energy costs in the whole world and especially in Europe drive the manufacturer firms to use the alternative energy resources and execute the researches on the products which their energy yield is higher, and one of those alternative energy resources is the solar energy which is a renewable energy resource. Underlining that our country is lucky about the solar energy, Mr. Kızıltan said that they, DemirDöküm Family, implemented a new project in order to streamline this important energy resource more.
''We, DemirDöküm, target to send the heating and cooling system with parabolic collector to the European markets and the markets of all world countries where the solar energy is used commonly as well as Turkish market. We plan that once the system is installed, some part of the heating and cooling energy would be obtained from the solar energy, especially in all regions of Turkey.
In particular, in the summer season when both solar energy and cooling need are higher, the contribution of our system to the country's economy will increase,'' added Kızıltan, as he stated his pleasure for this important cooperation.
This project, which will be implemented in cooperation with Solitem GmbH of which its registered office is located in Germany and is specialized on that subject, uses the water vapor which is obtained by focusing the solar energy onto a certain point in the manufacturing of heating, cooling and in the future, power energy.
How Does the System Work?
There are mainly parabolic solar collectors, a premix condence combi boiler and a heat pump in the system. Parabolic solar collectors follow the sun on the single axis due to the heating energy need of the system. By installing the system, it is planned that the important part of heating and cooling energy would be met by the solar energy, especially in all regions of Turkey. The heating and cooling power of the system, which will have the higher productivity value, will be between 5 - 35 kW, and has the lower emission values. Other energy resources, which the system uses other than solar energy, will be natural gas or LPG.
DEMİRDÖKÜM R&D INVESTMENT STUDIES
DemirDöküm currently carries out its works on creating the new energy resources as well as this investment. Micro cogeneration project, one of the projects, which is handled within that framework, uses the classical fuel technology. This project, which has a 1.2 Million Euros budget and it is planned that its production would start in 2008, is currently implemented in cooperation with Rabien AG/Germany.
In another micro cogeneration project which uses the hydrogen fuel, DemirDöküm still carries out its studies with Tübitak MAM. The project, which has totally 2.5 Million Euros of R&D budget, includes the production of both principle elements (bipolar plate, membrane etc.) and integrated device. Those projects are also supported by the institutions such as EİE, İTÜ and KOÜ.
Another R&D project, which is based on using the energy in the air by various chemical processes and Demirdöküm implements it in cooperation with METU, provides the solution to the heating pump systems which may not obtain the significant market share because of its cost.
DemirDöküm, which one of the first ten domestic firms who filled the most application for patent in 2005, has awarded the ''Patent League Prize'' by Turkish Patent Institute.
